United were beaten 1-0 by Bayern at Old Trafford, thanks to a goal from Kingsley Coman. The defeat consigned the Red Devils to a fourth-placed finish in Group A, meaning they will not even drop into the Europa League.

The must-win nature of the game, and the fact that United were facing an embarrassing early exit, may have led many to think that United would go all-guns-blazing with their approach but they managed just one shot on target, and Cundy believes there was a lack of belief both on the pitch and in the stands. Indeed, he drew a comparison with Anfield, given Liverpool's history of famous European nights in front of a rocking crowd.
WHAT CUNDY SAID
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “If this was at Anfield in a must-win game in the Champions League, the crowd would be up for it. No one of a persuasion ofManchester Unitedhad any belief, they had no desire and no passion. Everyone associated with Manchester United… hang your heads in shame!
“This is the second time ever finishing bottom of the group with just four points – their worst total ever in the Champions League. There must be Celtic fans laughing. Manchester United, you are the Celtic of English football in the Champions League.
“The most goals ever conceded by a Premier League team in the group stages with 15. Joint-most goals conceded out of all 32 clubs in the group stage with Antwerp… Antwerp! That was an absolute travesty… a disgrace."
