Ten Hag's second season at Manchester United was far from good as the Red Devils finished in eighth place in the Premier League. It had been highly contemplated that the season's end would also spell the end of the Dutchman's reign at Old Trafford. However, after winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City, the situation flipped and new co-owners INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, decided to afford the Dutchman another couple of seasons to change the team's results.

The Red Devils offered Ten Hag a two-year-long extension on his contract and promised to help him succeed at Old Trafford with big signings and support. However, it was speculated in the media that only offering Ten Hag two years on his contract showed that he does not exude confidence in the top brass at the club. However, Ten Hag doesn't think that is the case.
GettyWHAT TEN HAG SAID
Speaking to The Guardian, Ten Hag said: “No, I wanted this. So I think two years in football is already a long time and in two years we will see what we have built on top of what we have achieved now.."
When asked about potentially being given a four-year extension, he said: "No, I don’t need that. I don’t need that security.
"It’s important that we are together and that we are working together and when you work together you are in good moments together but also in bad moments. When it’s being questioned [his support] in the surrounding [externally] then of course that will flow into a team and is not helpful in achieving success.
"I don’t need this because I have enough security in my life and in my career and I have enough belief that I know when I have a team I will achieve success."
WHAT NEXT FOR TEN HAG?
